Baskerville House, Birmingham
Description
Whilst generally in good repair, the refurbishment and extension of this central Birmingham office building allowed the opportunity to carry out stonework cleaning, restoration and repair to the external fabric.
The second phase of works awarded following the completion of the restoration was the granite cladding to the new car park walls, re-modeled entrances and hard landscaping. The stone selected was to be De Lank Cornish Granite to give an exact match to the plinth of the existing building. Despite the building being well over 100 years old, the material selected is as consistent and indistinguishable from the original.
The overall scheme now gives a pleasant blend of modern design and the use of modern materials where appropriate, balanced with respect for the old building and the use of traditional material used in modern ways.
The works involved:
• Design and procurement of the granite units and associated fixings.
• A carefully programmed installation programme to synchronize with the completion of the project.
