Rothamsted, Statue Restoration
Description
Following the theft of various garden ornaments, Rattee & Kett were employed to clean and conserve the remaining artefacts and following their reinstatement into the garden, add discrete anti-theft measures.
The works involved:
- The show piece of the works was the gentle poultice clean and subsequent waxing of a large white marble sculpture created by the original owner of the property over 100 years ago.
- The sculpture had suffered over the years from not only its position, being surrounded and over hung by deciduous trees, but also from a poor quality clean a number of years ago which had left the surface quite rough.
- The works also included the pointing of failed joints within the statue to ensure the deteriation from water ingress is halted.
