Bourn Hall Clinic, Cambridge
Description
Bourn Hall is a very important and sensitive clinic which required full operational access whilst the project was carried out. The Grade I listed building's roof and high level structures were in a very poor state and needed extensive works.
The works involved:
- A fully designed temporary roof structure was put in place to enable continuous works and to protect the historic substructure.
- The works included a full re-roof – this involved structural timber repairs, re-tiling using local new handmade peg tiles, re-configuring all of the substructure timber work for new lead work to current standards. The lead work was all Code 7 or above with mainly traditional bossing techniques used.
- There were extensive brickwork repairs to both the façades and the chimney structures. One ornate chimney was completely rebuilt in locally produced handmade bricks set in lime mortar.
- The external joinery was overhauled which consisted of new joinery to match existing and extensive repairs using traditional splicing techniques where possible.
- The project was completed on time with minimal disruption to this ‘sensitive clinic’.
